Great tips provided to us by Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi Hafidhahullah on how to get up for Fajr salah. Here is a summary:
1) “There is no remedy better than going to bed early. It just solves the whole problem. Go to bed early.”
2) “Sleep on your right hand side because when the heart is above the lungs, the heart gets awakened very easily….It is the sunnah always to sleep on the right side with your face towards the qiblah.”
3) “You have 3 times Qul hu wAllahu Ahad. If you recite 3 times Qul hu wAllahu Ahad and ask the angels to wake you up for Fajr, you MUST get up for Fajr.”
4) “There’s another secret. If you recite the last 4 verses of surah al-Kahf from Innalla dheena aamanu wa ‘amilus saalihaati kanat lahum jannatul firdousi nudhul and ask the angels to wake you up on the hour the du’a is answered, you’ll get up little bit before Fajr.”
5) “Usually you shouldn’t sleep continually for more than 4 or 5 hours. So when you go to bed at 11 maximum then you should get up at 4 without anyone. If you are sleeping 7 or 8 hours without getting up then there is something wrong with you…”
Sleep 3, 4, 5 hours, wake up, pray 2 rakaat and go to sleep again if you have to but don’t sleep continously.
6) “The key is throw away TV…don’t stay up very late…”
Fajr and Isha are the two heavy prayers and people often stay up late to the point they are tired so they go straight from the TV to bed instead of praying ‘Isha.
May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala make it easy for us to get up and pray Fajr and may He make it easy for us to pray all 5 salah with sincerity.
May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala bless and reward Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi and elevate his ranks. Ameen Thumma Ameen.
